Strawberries are one of summer’s most wonderful blessings and one of the most favourite berries, though, from a botanical point of view, they belong (surprise!) to the species of nuts.

Strawberries are ideal snacks and perfect treats during a diet. 100 gram (ca. 3.5 oz.) strawberries contain only 0.23 gram (ca. 0.008 oz.) fat and have only 32 calories. Although they consist of 90% water, their taste is deliciously sweet and unique.

History and Facts
 
Strawberries, as we know them today growing in our gardens all over the world, have been discovered in 1750 in the Netherlands. This species was developed by interbreeding several wild berries.

Expressed in numbers, this is how much Germans love strawberries:  in 2011, 154,400 tons of strawberries were harvested, additionally 98,500 tons were imported. That’s more than 252,000 tons of pure palatal pleasure! Accordingly, each German enjoys 3.4 kg strawberries per season.

Culinary and Optical Delicacy

Strawberries - all natural, on cakes, as ice cream, sauces or jams and jellies, with whipped cream, custard or vanilla ice cream, in yoghurt, fromage frais, milkshakes and cocktails – there is an endless list of yummy recipes with strawberries!

And in addition, strawberries are also optical treats! What a wonderful way to start your day with them: decorate your breakfast table with colourful candles, flowers, yoghurt and bowls full of juicy, red strawberries! At tea or coffee time, you can decorate a table outdoors with a white tablecloth, white dishes, colourful pillar candles or tea lights with the RAL Quality Mark and a cake covered with fresh, red strawberries.

When the strawberry season is over and you are still craving for strawberries, you can bring their scent into your home by using scented candles with the RAL Quality Mark.
